The time has come once again for Nublu’s annual celebration of all things jazz.
From December 3rd to the 14, a varied assortment of proponents of improvisation-based music will
take the stage at 62 Ave C to celebrate what started as America’s indigenous 20th century music but
whichnow belongs to the world.
The musicians involved all hail from a staggering array of backgrounds and places but are all united in their
desire to express themselves as freely as possible while avoiding sounding like each other. Generations, styles,
sounds, approaches and philosophies are all criss-crossed and combined to create a whole that is greater than
the sum of its parts. The roster is impressive: a rare appearance by the legendary Henry Grimes, who will perform
with fellow bass legends William Parker and Juini Booth in a newly formed project called “The Tree Genies”.
Silver, another newly formed project featuring the great Trumpet man Eddie Henderson, Juini Booth, Ilhan Ersahin
and Kenny Wollesen. Brandon Ross’ Pendulum, JD Allen Trio, Hazmat Modine, Graham Haynes’ Synesthesia with
Adam Rudolph, Reid Anderson with Bill McHenry and Andrew D’Angelo, the Sun Ra Arkestra (their second
appearance at the NJF), Jojo Mayer, Daniel Freedman with Omer Avital and Jason Lindner. Amanda Brecker from
the famed Brecker family will perform with Marivaldo Santos. And dozens of more great and talented artists mainly
from New York City. Join us!
